Teeth Replacement & Prosthetic Dentistry
Replace missing teeth with options that look and feel like your own
Losing one tooth or a whole set changes how you eat, speak and smile. At Spark Dental Care Clinic in Sithalapakkam, Chennai, our prosthodontic team plans implants, bridges and custom dentures around your bone, your bite and your budget, so you get a replacement that fits your mouth and your life.
What is teeth replacement (prosthetic dentistry)?
Prosthetic dentistry is the branch of dentistry that replaces teeth you have lost to decay, gum disease, injury or extraction. Depending on how many teeth are missing and how healthy your gums and bone are, the replacement can be fixed, like an implant or a bridge, or removable, like a partial or full denture. The goal is simple: a comfortable bite, a natural-looking smile and teeth that last. We start by looking at your whole mouth rather than just the gap, so the replacement supports the teeth you still have instead of putting extra pressure on them.
- • Replacing a single missing tooth
- • Restoring several missing teeth in one jaw
- • Rebuilding a full upper or lower arch
- • Upgrading an old, loose or broken denture
- • Supporting teeth that have become weak or worn down
Teeth replacement options available at Spark Dental Care
Single tooth implants
A titanium implant placed in the gap acts as an artificial root, and a custom-made crown is fitted on top. It looks and feels like a natural tooth, does not rely on the neighbouring teeth, and helps keep the jawbone strong instead of letting it shrink.
Multiple implants and All-on-4 / All-on-6
If several teeth are missing, implants can be placed at strategic points to support a full row of fixed teeth. All-on-4 uses four implants per jaw and All-on-6 uses six for extra strength. Both are done in a single arch, without a removable plate.
Fixed dental bridges
A bridge anchors a false tooth to crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap. It is a well-established and comfortable option when the neighbouring teeth are strong enough to carry it. A cantilever bridge is used where only one neighbouring tooth is available.
Resin-bonded (Maryland) bridges
A metal or zirconia wing is bonded to the back of the neighbouring teeth, holding the false tooth in place without removing much healthy tooth structure. Often the gentler choice for a single missing front tooth.
Removable partial dentures
When you still have some of your own teeth, a partial denture fills the gaps and is clipped into place. It protects the gums, spreads chewing forces evenly, and can be made in flexible, metal-reinforced or cast formats.
Full dentures and BPS
A full denture replaces an entire arch. Our Biofunctional Prosthetic System (BPS) options are designed for a close fit, good lip support and steady chewing, and are relined or replaced as your mouth changes over the years.
Implant-supported overdentures
Two or more implants anchor a removable denture so it stops slipping and wobbling. You still take it out to clean it, but it feels noticeably more stable than a conventional plate.
Full-arch and full-mouth rehabilitation
When teeth are missing, worn and failing together, we rebuild the whole mouth in stages using implants, bridges, crowns and bite correction, so your new teeth meet evenly and last longer.
Implants, bridges or dentures: which one should you choose?
There is no single best option, and the right answer depends on your bone, your remaining teeth and how much you want to invest. This short comparison helps you understand the differences before your consultation.
| Dental implants | Fixed bridge | Removable denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | One tooth, several teeth or a whole arch | One or two missing teeth with strong neighbours | Several missing teeth, a budget-first or staged plan |
| Feels like natural teeth | Very close - fixed, with no clicking or movement | Fixed and comfortable once it has settled in | Good, but can feel loose or bulky at first |
| Protects the jawbone | Yes - the implant keeps the bone active | Partly - the gap can still lose bone over time | No - the bone under the plate keeps shrinking |
| Care needed | Daily brushing and six-monthly reviews | Careful cleaning under the bridge | Take out to clean, plus relines every few years |
| Typical lifespan | 15-20 years or longer | 10-20 years | 5-8 years before a reline or a remake |
| Cost level | Higher - the strongest long-term option | Moderate | Lowest - the most affordable starting point |
Which replacement option fits your situation?
These are the situations we see most often. Find the one that sounds like you and we will start from there at your consultation.
I have lost one tooth
A single implant with a custom crown is usually the most natural-looking, long-lasting result because it does not rely on the teeth next to it. A resin-bonded bridge is a gentler alternative for some front teeth.
I have lost several teeth in one jaw
Multiple implants, an All-on-4 or All-on-6 bridge, or a well-designed partial denture. We compare what each one costs, how long it lasts and how much maintenance it needs before you choose.
I have lost most or all of my teeth
Full dentures for the most affordable route, implant-supported overdentures for extra stability, or fixed All-on-4 and All-on-6 implants for teeth that never come out.
My denture is loose, cracked or painful
Usually the gums have changed shape underneath it. We reline or remake it, and where appropriate use two implants to lock the new denture firmly in place.
My teeth are cracked, worn or weak
Some teeth can be saved with crowns, onlays or a root canal instead of being replaced. We only replace what genuinely needs replacing, and we tell you when a tooth is worth keeping.
Signs you should replace a tooth sooner rather than later
Leaving a missing tooth untreated is understandable - it costs money and takes time. But it can cause problems that make the eventual treatment more complicated. Book an examination if you notice any of these.
- • A gap that is getting wider, or neighbouring teeth tipping into it
- • Pain or pressure in the jaw, or a dull ache where a tooth used to be
- • Difficulty chewing on one side, or food getting stuck in the gap
- • Gums that bleed, look swollen or have started to recede
- • A bridge or crown that keeps breaking, or a filling that has fallen out
- • Low confidence in your smile, or avoiding photos and conversations
What to expect at Spark Dental Care, step by step
A full examination and digital X-rays
We check your gums, your remaining teeth, your bite and your jaw joints, and take digital X-rays to measure the height and width of the bone where the replacement will sit. Nothing is planned from guesswork.
A written plan with cost and timeline
You get a clear written plan showing the option we recommend, the alternatives, how many visits it needs and a cost estimate. Nothing is scheduled until you agree to it.
Treatment at a comfortable pace
Implants are placed under local anaesthesia and most patients feel pressure rather than pain. If you are nervous or it is a longer appointment, sedation options are available at our Sithalapakkam clinic.
Fitting and bite checking
Your crown, bridge or denture is fitted and adjusted so it meets your other teeth evenly. If the bite feels high after a new crown, we correct it in the same visit.
Reviews and long-term care
We schedule a review to check healing, comfort and how the replacement is settling, then keep you on a regular six-monthly maintenance cycle so small problems never become big ones.
Caring for your replacement teeth
A well-made replacement lasts much longer when it is looked after properly. These are the simple habits we go through with you before you leave the clinic.
- • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, including around implants, under bridges and along the gum line of a denture
- • Clean between the teeth once a day with floss or interdental brushes - this is where implants most often lose ground
- • Take a denture out at night, clean it daily and store it in water so it does not dry out and warp
- • Avoid biting hard on ice, bones or hard sweets with a new crown, bridge or implant
- • If you grind your teeth at night, ask us about a night guard to protect the new restoration
- • Keep your six-monthly reviews - small wear and leaks are far easier to fix early
Teeth replacement cost in Chennai
Cost is the most common question, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you need. A single implant crown and a full arch of fixed teeth are very different investments, and so are a denture and a bridge. What we can promise is a written estimate before you commit to anything. EMI options are available for major treatments, and treatment can be carried out in stages so the cost is spread over time.
- • How many teeth are missing - one, several or a full arch
- • Bone condition - grafting or a zygomatic implant can add to both the plan and the cost
- • Material - zirconia and all-ceramic cost more than PFM, and flexible and cast partials sit in between
- • Whether other work is needed first, such as gum treatment, root canals or extractions
- • How many visits are involved and how quickly you would like to complete the treatment

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between prosthetic dentistry and teeth replacement?
They mean the same thing. Prosthetic dentistry is the clinical name for the branch of dentistry that replaces missing or damaged teeth with artificial ones, and teeth replacement is the everyday way patients describe it. This page covers both, including implants, fixed bridges and dentures.
How much does teeth replacement cost in Chennai?
It depends on the number of teeth, the option you choose and whether any other treatment is needed first. A single implant crown and a full arch of fixed teeth are very different investments, and a denture is the most affordable starting point. We give you a written estimate with your treatment plan before anything begins, and EMI options are available for major treatments. Call +91 82209 54866 to discuss your case.
Is teeth replacement painful?
Most of it is done under local anaesthesia, so you feel pressure rather than pain. Implant placement involves a short surgical step, and mild soreness or sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal and settles with simple pain relief. If you are anxious, sedation options are available at our Sithalapakkam clinic.
How long does the whole treatment take?
It ranges from a single visit for a denture or a bonded bridge to several months for implants, because an implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone before the crown is fitted on top. We give you a realistic timeline with your written plan, so you know exactly what to expect at each stage.
Can teeth replacement be done in stages?
Yes, and for many people it is the best way to go. We can treat pain and infection first, replace the teeth you most need for eating and speaking, and complete the rest later. It also lets you spread the cost over time instead of paying for everything in one visit.
Are dental implants better than dentures?
Neither is better for everyone. Implants are fixed, feel very close to natural teeth and help keep the jawbone strong, but they cost more and need surgery. Dentures are removable, more affordable and can be upgraded later. We explain both honestly at your consultation and help you choose based on your bone, your budget and your daily life.
How long do replacement teeth last?
With good oral hygiene and regular reviews, implants often last 15-20 years or longer, bridges 10-20 years, and dentures 5-8 years before they need a reline or a remake. Even the best materials do not stop the gums and bone changing over time, which is why regular reviews keep the fit comfortable.
Can you replace a single tooth?
Yes. A single implant with a custom crown is the most natural-looking and long-lasting option because it does not rely on the teeth next to it. A resin-bonded bridge is a gentler alternative for some front teeth, and a small partial denture is another possibility. We confirm what is suitable after examining the gap and the neighbouring teeth.
